Harley Quinn tells Joker she feels like she hasn’t accomplished much in life compared to him. In the first movie, we saw Joker’s backstory as a struggling comedian. Now, in the sequel, he’s joined by Harley Quinn as they perform together. Joker feels less lonely now, but there’s more to discuss. The trailer ends with Harley at Arkham Asylum, wanting to see the real Joker.
Director Todd Phillips showed the footage at CinemaCon, a big event for movie theater owners. Even though the first “Joker” movie was meant to be a standalone, Phillips and Phoenix always talked about making a sequel.
“We loved Arthur’s character too much, but we didn’t want to ruin the first movie,” said Phillips. “We chose Gaga because she’s amazing.”
The plot of the sequel is still a mystery, but reports say it’s a musical. Phillips says it’s not just a jukebox musical but will have lots of music and dancing.
“Arthur has music in him. He has a grace to him,” Phillips added.
Phillips thanked theater owners for showing “Joker” despite concerns about its violence. “Joker” made over $1 billion worldwide and got 11 Oscar nominations.
“Joker 2” will hit theaters on Oct. 4, 2024, exactly five years after the first one. The first movie cost $62.5 million to make, but the sequel has a bigger budget of $200 million.
Warner Bros. also revealed plans for other movies like “Beetlejuice 2,” “Horizon: An American Saga,” and a “Mad Max” prequel called “Furiosa.”
