The lead actor and antagonist from Amazon’s modern adaptation of the beloved 1989 classic “Road House” connected with Complex’s Joe La Puma at Stadium Goods in New York City for a special appearance on Complex Sneaker Shopping.

In the series, Gyllenhaal takes on the role of Elwood Dalton, a fallen ex-UFC fighter, a reinterpretation of the character originally portrayed by Patrick Swayze as James Dalton.

Meanwhile, McGregor, known as “The Notorious,” portrays his primary rival, the menacing and enraged Knox. However, during their sneaker discussion, the actors behind the characters shared lighthearted moments and jokes.

One of the most lucrative and prominent stars in the history of the UFC is none other than The Notorious One, Conor McGregor. He achieved rapid success, swiftly rising to become the undisputed Featherweight champion in 2015 and later claiming the undisputed Lightweight title in 2016.

Despite his confident and lavish persona, McGregor’s early life in Ireland was far from affluent. Prior to his debut in the Octagon against Marcus Brimage in 2013, McGregor was reportedly collecting a welfare cheque of around USD 220.

In contrast, Jake Gyllenhaal, McGregor’s co-star, attributes his love for sneakers to the Reebok Pump. Reflecting on his initial fascination with the shoe, he remarked, “All I could think about was that half basketball.” Upon finally acquiring a pair, Gyllenhaal reminisced about gleefully pumping and releasing the shoes, expressing doubts about the Pump’s function but feeling as though he was aboard a “spaceship.”

During the discussion with Complex’s Joe La Puma, Gyllenhaal recounted a moment from the early 2000s when he was captured wearing LA-themed Nike Dunk Lows, a shoe that has since regained immense popularity. Gyllenhaal shared his appreciation for the Dunk silhouette, stating:

To me, it’s always about the fit… Like fit around the pant. But also like to me, the Lakers… I grew up in LA. And so, I loved that color scheme. It always matched for me, I like having accessories on my feet, but something more simple on top. So, that was the beginning of where I started to play around with lots of color. And I love color. “

In the traditional format of a Complex Sneaker Shopping episode, the trio explored a diverse array of sneakers, including the iconic Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Bruce Lee”, the Nike KD 7 “What The KD”, and the classic Adidas Gazelle, a staple worn by Gyllenhaal throughout most of his role in Donnie Darko.

The most captivating segment of the episode unfolded when Gyllenhaal and McGregor displayed sheer amazement over the Nike MAG “Back to the Future”. Despite their status as affluent superstars in their respective fields, they were both taken aback by the staggering $35,000 price tag. In a light-hearted moment, The Notorious quipped, “My man Jake, you’re up!” prompting Jake to respond with a playful, “Oh, they don’t have my size… That’s too bad!”

Conor Mcgreggor spends $40,000 on two pairs of sneakers!

Ultimately, the two leading actors from Road House ended the episode with substantial shoe hauls. Gyllenhaal opted for 22 pairs of White Nike Air Force 1s, intending to utilize them for charitable purposes. On the other hand, McGregor left the store with over 20 pairs of high-end sneakers, gathering a total bill close to $26,000. Despite his lavish selections, most of the shoes were intended for his children, who he humorously admitted are more passionate about sneakers than he is.

While the 2024 remake of Road House has received mixed reviews, the dynamic duo of Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor undeniably bring an enjoyable dynamic on-screen. McGregor’s potential UFC plans have sparked rumors of a showdown with Michael Chandler, although no official announcements or dates have been confirmed yet. In the meantime, The Notorious seems to be relishing his Hollywood experiences alongside his new pal, Jake Gyllenhaal.
