The singer, who accused the hip-hop mogul of rape and abuse, wrote a statement after a video from 2016 came out last week.
Cassie, the singer who accused Sean Combs of hurting her physically and sexually for years in a lawsuit that they resolved, talked about a video that came out last week showing the music mogul attacking her. She shared on Instagram that domestic violence had changed her into someone she never expected to be.
In her post, she thanked everyone who took her situation seriously and asked everyone to believe victims from the start. She said it’s tough to speak out about a situation where you felt powerless.
This is the first time Cassie has talked openly about what she went through with Mr. Combs since she filed her lawsuit last November and settled it in one day. Since then, she only spoke through her lawyer, who called the video of the attack “painful” when CNN released it last week.
The video from 2016, which seems to be from security cameras, shows Ms. Ventura waiting for an elevator in a hotel. Mr. Combs, wearing a towel, grabs the back of her sweatshirt and throws her to the ground. He kicks her twice and then pulls her down the hallway away from the elevators. This video matches some of the things mentioned in Ms. Ventura’s lawsuit. She said Mr. Combs attacked her at an InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles in 2016 when she was trying to leave.
“Even though his lawyer denied the accusations in the lawsuit earlier, Mr. Combs later apologized in a video after the footage came out. He said he takes full blame for what he did and mentioned that he went to therapy and rehab afterwards.
A singer in pop and R&B, who was part of Mr. Combs’s label, Bad Boy Records, until 2019, Ms. Ventura talked about in her lawsuit how her relationship with Mr. Combs affected her. She said he gave her drugs, hurt her, and made her do things she didn’t want to do. It took over her career and personal life.
Cassie wrote in her post that the love and support she received made her feel safer now, especially her younger self. But she said this is just the start because domestic violence is a big problem.
She added, “I’m doing better now after a lot of hard work, but I’m still healing from my past.”
After her lawsuit, four more women have sued Mr. Combs, saying he sexually assaulted them. One of these cases was filed just this week. Mr. Combs’s lawyers are battling these cases in court. He called the accusations “sickening” and said they’re from people trying to get money quickly.
His legal problems got worse in March when federal agents raided two of his homes. They took electronic devices as part of a human trafficking investigation.
