Rudy Mancuso and Camila Mendes star in the new romantic musical comedy Música.

Camila mentioned meeting Rudy’s mom, who plays his on-screen mother in the film and who Rudy mentioned was very excited to meet Camila.

She shared, “It was really nice. I got to know his mom while getting to know him. I met them both around the same time.”

When Camila first met Rudy over Zoom, she had a positive impression of him, calling it a “work crush.” She even discussed it with her ‘Riverdale’ co-stars. She wasn’t sure until they met in person, saying, “I couldn’t confirm that feeling until we met face-to-face, and then it was clear.”

Rudy mentioned, “The connection between us was getting stronger as we filmed the movie.”

Although they initially kept their relationship under wraps, the cast and crew began to notice it towards the end of filming.

Rudy chuckled, “My sister was like, ‘What’s going on?’ and I replied, ‘Nothing, I’m the director, she’s an actor and producer. We’re professionals,’ but then admitted, “We were not professionals.”

In addition to writing, composing music, directing, and starring in the film, Rudy shared that the story was inspired by his own life and discussed the challenges of juggling multiple roles.

Despite the difficulties, he emphasized, “There was no other way for me to bring this story to life… I knew it better than anyone else.”

Rudy expressed gratitude towards his cast, crew, and producers, acknowledging, “The movie wouldn’t exist without them.”

Camila believed it was essential for Rudy to take on various roles since the story was deeply personal, saying, “When it’s such a personal story, you have to tell it yourself… You have a responsibility to convey it accurately and in a way that reflects your vision.”

In the film, Camila portrayed a Brazilian-American girl who, in some aspects, differs from her. She shared, “I incorporated many similarities and personal traits into her character, but I am more focused on the future in comparison.”

“Música” will be available on Prime Video starting April 4.
