“Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was given a sentence for her role in the ‘Rust’ shooting, where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins tragically died.
The judge sentenced her to 18 months in prison, the most she could get.
Before giving the sentence, the judge told her that as the armorer, she was responsible for keeping the weapons safe, but her actions turned a safe weapon into a deadly one.
The judge also said that Hannah didn’t seem to show any remorse for her actions. During the sentencing, it was mentioned that she made disrespectful comments about jurors, the judge, and the prosecutor in phone calls from jail.
Hannah appeared shaken during statements from the victim’s family.
She spoke before the sentencing, expressing sorrow for the tragedy and asking for probation instead of more time in prison.
In March, she was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Hutchins’ death. Gutierrez-Reed was the one who allegedly loaded Alec Baldwin’s gun with a live bullet by mistake during filming.
Baldwin, a producer on ‘Rust,’ accidentally fired the gun, killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Before her sentencing, it was reported that Gutierrez-Reed criticized the jurors in her phone calls from jail, calling them names and expressing frustration. She also said she wouldn’t testify at Baldwin’s trial. Baldwin pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and is set to stand trial in July.”
