At the 63rd Monte-Carlo Television Festival, several cast members of the iconic TV show ‘Little House on the Prairie’ came together for a reunion. The former child actors shared their fond memories of working on the set half a century ago, describing the experience as overwhelmingly positive.

According to People magazine, Alison Arngrim, 62, known for her role as the iconic villain Nellie Oleson on the show, expressed feeling ‘extremely sheltered’ while on set.

Matthew Labyorteaux, 57, known for his role as Albert Ingalls, added, “Our crew always made sure we felt safe as children.”

Alison Arngrim further elaborated, “If anyone had ever harmed me or the other girls and the crew found out, they would have taken swift action. That was the environment we were provided with, a high level of protection.”

These remarks carry significant weight in light of the “Quiet on Set” revelations, which shed light on the mistreatment of young actors at Nickelodeon during the ’90s and early ’00s.

Karen Grassle, 82, known for her role as Caroline Ingalls, acknowledged, “[Producer and star] Michael [Landon] used to smoke. We would smoke around the kids… We even put out our cigarettes in the dirt of the Little House on the Prairie. Can you believe it? Quite unconventional.”

Alison Arngrim added, “And no one found it odd.”

Grassle mentioned that the relaxed atmosphere on set mirrored that of previous shows Landon had worked on, like “Bonanza.” However, they all agreed that, even considering the era’s norms, the set was relatively calm.

Matthew Labyorteaux, who had prior experience working with John Cassavetes on the film “Woman Under the Influence” in 1974, remarked, “‘Little House’ was unlike any other set I’ve encountered.”

“Little House on the Prairie” was a beloved, family-focused series on NBC from 1974 to 1983. Michael Landon, the producer and actor, passed away from cancer at 54 in 1991, leaving behind a lasting legacy.
